Pilot Survey

In our group, we decided to make a pilot survey before we make the real survey so that we could see what changes, adjustments and improvements we needed to make. The questions we asked were:

Asking the audience whether they preferred 15 or 18 rated films is important to the research because it helps us decide which one is more popular so we can make sure we are choosing the right age to base the film at. On this survey, more people said they preferred 18's. This helped me because it shows that the audience liked them more and tells us what age we should be aiming the film to be at. However, we did not ask the audience reasons why they preferred an 18 rated film. For our next survey, we will make sure we ask why. I also do not think asking the type of genre the audience prefer is relevant as it doesn't tell us anything about thriller and what we should and shout not include. In our next survey, I do not think we should include this question.

The majority of the audience said they preferred slow openings of films. Even though this already tells me we should make the opening and title sequence slow, we have not gathered any reasons why they like it being slow. On our next survey we must include options such as: do they like the text in opening sequences? or the sound? etc.
A lot of the audience answered differently on question six. This doesn't help me as I will not get to see what the audience

The last question, we asked what people generally expected to see in a horror film. Most of the answers are very different which did not help us as each of the audience liked different things. On our next survey, we should keep the answer limited so that they have a choice of what they expect to see to make it less varied, helping us get the best results.

Overall, doing this pilot survey did not help us but it did show us on how we could improve. I do not think the questions we asked were specific enough as they gave us no detailed answers. I also think the presentation was poor as it was handwritten and it was hard to tally all the results which is then tells us, the next survey we make, we should make it on the computer so it is clearer for the audience to view and easier for us to collect the data.

  1. Excellent post with insightful reflections and evaluation! I get the sense this blog is going to be superior to ALL the ones we have had before. Well Done!
